IVL cookie policy
A cookie is a small text file stored on the visitor's computer and containing information. Cookies are usually used to improve the site for the user.
The purpose of this cookie policy is to explain how we, IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet AB with org.nr 556116-2446 (“IVL” or “we”), use cookies and similar technologies on our website (https://www.ivl.se/). To make this policy easy to navigate and comprehend, we will hereafter be referring to all such technologies as cookies, unless otherwise specified. We want to provide you with as much information as possible regarding what cookies we use, what each cookie does and why, so that you can make an informed decision on whether you want to consent to cookies or not.
Kindly take the time to read through and form an understanding of our cookie policy. If you would like to know more about how we process your personal data, further information is available in our privacy policy.
We respect your right to privacy and take great care to protect your personal data.
Withdrawing consent for cookies
You can choose to withdraw your consent (change your choice of cookies) at any time. Click on the button below to change your cookie settings.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that the website you are visiting requests to download and store on your computer, tablet, mobile phone or other device. Cookies make it possible for the website to recognise your device and store certain information about your settings or previous activities, and they are used in several different ways. Cookies are largely used to make the website function, or function more efficiently, and to provide information on visitors’ behaviour on the website.
There are two kinds of cookies – permanent cookies and session cookies. A permanent cookie remains on your device until its predetermined date of expiry has passed (or until you manually delete cookies from your browser). A session cookie is stored temporarily on your device during your visit to our website and will be deleted automatically when you close your browser.
Furthermore, cookies can be divided into “first party cookies” and “third party cookies”. This refers to the website or domain that sets the cookies. First party cookies are set directly by our website. IVL also uses third party cookies that are set by another domain than our own, since our website includes elements from other websites, for example Apsis functions.
2. Consent to the use of cookies
The use of cookies is regulated by the directive on privacy and electronic communications (2002/58/EC) (better known as the ePrivacy directive), the Swedish act (2022:482) on electronic communication, and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) (EU/2016/679).
You have the option to consent to our use of cookies in the cookie-banner on our website. You can consent to a specific category of cookies if you wish to do so. This is easily done through our cookie manager on our website. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, and our cookie manager will be available to you so that you can change and update your settings at any time.
There are two exceptions, where consent is not requested or required. This applies to cookies that are necessary for communication and to display our website, and cookies that are used to provide a requested service, for example language settings. We call these cookies necessary cookies, more on that below.
3. The types of cookies we use and why
Necessary cookies
Cookies that are necessary to transfer information to you, either as a part of our standard for communication or when you have specifically requested an optional feature, such as changing the language used, are called necessary cookies. The website and/or the requested features simply do not function without necessary cookies, and they are therefore not optional and will always be used.
Analytical cookies to optimise our website
We use analytical cookies from providers that help us measure how our website is used and performs. These cookies help us improve our website by reacting to how it is used. The information we collect include which geographical region you are visiting us from, what device, operating system and internet provider you use, how many visits you have made to our website and the specific pages you have visited, which links you have clicked on and what other actions you have performed on the site.
Functional cookies
Some cookies are used to improve features on our website or to facilitate communication with you. We call these functional cookies. For example, they can help us confirm that a human person is sending information to us, and not a bot or harmful software.
Marketing cookies
Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across different websites and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. The purpose of these cookies is to display ads that are relevant and engaging for you as a visitor. They also help us understand how many people have viewed or clicked on a particular ad, allowing us to optimize our campaigns and ensure that our ads are as relevant and effective as possible. These cookies are set by the platforms where we run active advertisements. For more information on how these platforms handle cookies, please follow the links below:
